Fish Farming

(Valam Organic Farm - Veliyanallur, Cheyyar)

Welcome to the blog...

IDENTIFYING THE AREA

Area for the fish pond identified and started the work with the help of JCB and Tractors to construct in 30 Cents.

We dig and checked the depth of clay soil available.

Identified the land, where ponds needs to be constructed

CLEANING THE IDENTIFIED LAND

Started the cleaning process with the help of JCB

POND CONSTRUCTION

Marked the area of the pond to be constructed.

PIPE LINE & WATER MANAGEMENT

Fixed the pipe line and filled the water for half feet and increased the level day by day till 4 to 5 feet.

FERTILE THE POND

Natural manuring (GOAT & COW) applied for the formation of algae, So that the  zooplankton(heterotrophic plankton that range from microscopic organisms to large species) and phytoplankton (microscopic marine algae). which is good for food chain.

Increased the organic manure till the pond become Dark green in color

We used Secchi disk to measure the water transparency.

The acceptable PH range for fish culture is normally between pH 6.5-9.0. We check the PH regularly and maintained the PH level above 6.5.

NURSERY POND

We will keep the fingerlings in the nursery pond for 1-2 month and will leave it in the main pond.

PROCUREMENT

Purchased Fish seed from the vendor ( Grass carp-600 nos, Common Carp-600 nos, Silver Carp-600 nos ).

FEEDING MANAGEMENT

Fixed tray to keep the Fish feed. Feed has been provided in the morning and in the evening.

Simultaneously constructed the Asola and greens leaves, which is a good feed for fish.

Apart from Asola and greens leaves. We used ground nut oil cake, rice bran, Rice and fish feed.

PREDATORS

Main predators are snakes and fish feeding birds.

To protect from birds, use wire across the pond. So that birds will not enter the pond

HARVEST AND MARKETING

Harvest after six month

BENEFITS

Fish pond water is used to irrigate paddy crop. Which is a good natural manure for the paddy.

Ducks feed on predators and help the fingerlings to grow. Ducks serve as bio aerators as they swim, play and chase in the pond. When ducks swim in water, the oxygen level automatically increases in the water body, Fish in the water will get more oxygen. They also benefit from the bird droppings.

We planted fruit bearing tress and timber trees on the banks of the pond like Moringa, papaya, Small amla, Guava, pomegranate, Coconut, Sapota, Teak, All varieties of custard apple, Agathi, Gongura and many more....

RESEARCH

For research we also purchased 100 nos Roop Chand and 100 tilapia varieties.

  8. Great blog! I found the details about RPE pond liners very informative. These liners are highly durable, UV-resistant, and offer excellent puncture resistance, making them perfect for various pond projects. The RPE pond liner price is quite reasonable given its long-lasting performance. Thanks for sharing such valuable information!

  9. Excellent post! It’s great to see more attention being given to RPE (Reinforced Polyethylene) pond liners and their role in ensuring long-lasting, leak-proof solutions for water containment. The durability and strength of RPE liners are a game-changer for both agricultural and ornamental pond applications. It’s impressive to learn about the manufacturers leading the way in producing high-quality RPE liners that can withstand harsh weather conditions and UV exposure.

I'm curious about the advancements in RPE technology—are there any innovations in terms of eco-friendliness or recycling? Sustainability in pond liner materials is becoming increasingly important, and I’d love to hear more about how RPE pond liner manufacturers are addressing this issue. Thanks for sharing such an informative post!
